Lake Suontee is one the Natura 2000 areas in Finland. The island Kalhosaari is located in the southern part of the lake.

In Verkkoranta you can enjoy various activities in nature and in water. On the mainland, there is the nature trail called Pirunpolku (“Devil’s Path”). You can also hire a wilderness guide for your hiking and fishing trips. Please, make sure that you have a proper license for fishing.

Sight-seeing

The village of Tuukkala is a boat trip away (4 km) from the island. From the shore there is just a short walk through the idyllic rustic scenery to the village where you can meet local people and summer guests. You find the nearest waste station from there.

By road the village Tuukkala is 4 km and Hirvensalmi (the centre) 15 km. In Hirvensalmi, there are gas stations (SEO and Neste), grocery (S-market), pharmacy and a couple of restaurants.

The nearest city is Mikkeli, about 50 km, and the cities Jyväskylä and Lahti are about 100 km.

There are plenty of other interesting places in the vicinity of Verkkoranta. We can recommend e.g. Mäntyharju, Heinola and Joutsa.
